Alienskin : casual wear for the magic creatures

Of course we are living in the XXI, but  that’s no reason you can be wearing actual dresses with a fairy, cyber or gothic edge that sill keeps a magic that distinguish the most daring ones that decide not to . Casual, comfortable and still fantasy oriented,  Alienskin is a british store with a very interesting collection  from which I highlight the hooded coats and long leafy skirts that you can order in your custom size/colours showing that mythic creatures can also adapt to urban backgrounds.

There are also some accessories like arm warmers with several original designs, i’ve picked my favourite to show you.

Halloween is just “The Nightmare before Christmas”

Tim Burton’s “The nightmare before Christmas” is one of my favorite movies… This stop-motion animated jewel released early nineties when I was a teenager. I went to the cinema seven times in a row when it was released just to learn the songs by hear (in those times to find the soundtrack where I was living was a complex task, but finally I found the little precious soundtrack of score that Danny Elfman scored for the movie)… “Oh somewhere deep inside of this bones….!” Yes, this film archieved what looked impossible, to make a charming prince to fall in love with out of a  thin  doll of a skeleton with such a great personality… the mighty Pumpkin King Jack Skellington. A gentle mix of genres, it even had some space for romance, and thus Jack and Sally became one of the most loveliest couple ever.. This movie also showed to the world the spirit of Halloween into countries like mine that have no tradition of it. Years later it started to become a cult movie and gain the recognition it initially deserved…

Let´s start with the heroine…. Sally Rag Doll!

There are cheap already made versions available, but you can opt for a fine hand-made version

Polishing details with this stitched glovettes (or you can opt for theatrical make up too. See attached video for Sally’s make up tutorial)

I think this might be more accurate to what the character is, just like the one below with wool hair juts like a doll:

Still due to aesthetics some prefer to wear a bright red fiber hair wig, the next one is suitable in hair  style:

Jack’s mask alone

I don’t need to say that the very classical Halloween skeleton gloves are indeed great and useful for Jack’s costume.

Feather eyelashes: Fantasy in your eyes!

We previously covered in this blog an article about “fantasy contact lenses”, if you add now some fantasy false eyelashes, there you got it…. You’re not from this world for sure!!!

Among the most striking ones that i’ve found and in a better quality range you can purchase Shu Uemura’s false eyelashes, where I hightlight particularly this gorgeous model (about $50 though) handcrafted in light brown and black that you can see on the picture below (Premium velvet in light brown and black). This particular model has been sold several times on ebay too cheaper just looking for “feather eyelashes”, but if you’re not lucky and have the money to spare, they look amazing and you can always visit official Shu Uemura website. I wonder how they stay in shape if you sweat on the stage of if you’re caught in the rain… and most importantly if the bigger models are comfortable, but if you’re looking for “fine quality” I think this one is of the best options and have different models in different price ranges that you can choose from. But If you are looking for an alien, dryad or fairy look the Premium models of Shue Uemura’s are big enough to make you look even weird (in a fantasy way!)

Of course you can find some “chinese” cheap feather eyelashes in Holy ebay!! like KK-HC center (ebay store) I really doubt of the quality of these, though i’m about to order some to give a try, some are nice looking and actually considering false eyelashes are somehow a deleterous item, these offers rather cheap prices (even including the often abusive shipping costs from chinese product sellers). Below I post some that I find interesting.

I’ve also put an eye on this lovely model made by Stargazer looks really lovely for gothic and burlesque, I think I might give a try to this model that is one of my favorites among this trademark. They make it in purple too and other colours.

Here are some other shops where you can find false and feather eyelashes like classylashes (UK based), devious wigs (USA based) where you can find some tipped models.

Probably I will re-catch this article after a little experience with then ;-) .

Bibian Blue: dark clothing with vintage spice!

Bibian Blue

Bibian Blue is a fashion designer based in Barcelona. So as it’s my city, I have the luck to be able to visit the store and spend a time in awe with her awesome dresses and gowns. From XVIII Maria Antoniette’s style tops and corsets to prom skirts with full petticoats. The variety of designs, moods and fabrics is enormous and every piece full of fantasy and imagination and all spiced with a “vintage” lovely mood. If you like almost any other style from fetish to cyber-wear (that I’m not so familiar with) she has also plenty of examples. If you happen to be able to visit the store (Barcelona, Spain) you can order a custom-made piece or get couture made from the artist self that indeed knows how to treat a client with her kindness and closeness, in any case these are all hand-made and quite exclusive, not cheap, but reasonable quality/price ratio. Just in case you’re in a hurry to get a lovely dark-edge cinderella gown for the ball, a must stop to consider. If you are not so lucky you can visit her online store (also in english) and dive in part of her catallogue. I’ve used some of her gowns on stage as we´ve made some endorsements, so you can see here a video of me wearing a black corset of her in concert, In fact i’m off to grab my new corset from there!! can’t wait to try it! shall use it in one of my upcoming concerts! I shall include some pictures in the gallery soon!
