Moresca: Fairy tale and Ren clothing

Moresca is a New York based company specialized in fairy-tale, fantasy and renaissance costumes. I had the chance to see the wonderful bodices, garments, gowns and accesories when I attended as performer to the faeriecon last 2009.

I fell in love with the seagull short bodice but I wasn’t fast enough! people grabbed them in one day… as lovely as they were. I’ll probably will be getting this one for a videoclip. I think it’s heavenly adorable. It belongs to the MORESCA  “seagull” collection, though I think of an “artic wolf” too and that’s the way I want to characterize myself with it.

Above: seagull short bodice (AW I want it)

For those bellydancers and girls with a body that can provide grace to this, there were absolutely stunning tribal pieces like the own below. A fellow performer used a red set and she was looking absolutely great.

In the fairy ball also the faery bodices (that you can actually order in different colors, brocades and  floral ornaments) were pretty popular and despite sharing design they were all different and certainly customized and unique…  This is on the ohhh wouldn’t mind list too.

Oh I just needed to share also  pouch like this one… they’re so faery. They have a wealth of wonderful bags, so pretty that I’d not been able to pick one!

Talking about bigger things, there are also some unique and one of a kind items… and they’re indeed showing they are…!!  From simple (yet very sexy) hooded velvet capes and dresses to fairytale luxurious models.

Above: The “Mega” model  made from a beautiful color range of jacquards.

Revealing, with monastic overtones. The one a man tends to get for his woman. The waistband laces firmly in the back, under the full length cape. Generous hood. Dry clean.

Plume designs is the clothing company run by, performer and artist (also proud to say my friend) Lycee la Plume. From innocent to spicy It can goes from cute dolls, bellydance, vintage circus to decadent Marie Antoinettes (remember we made an special about Marie Antoinette before in your fantasy costume).

You may think some items are expensive, but I’ve seen this lady working and rendering awesome art pieces, hand sewed and of extreme quality. Each piece shows the great amount of love a non massively produced design requires.

This is one of her more popular items… isn’t it cute? Remember our Queen of the Hearts special Valentine article… This is a must add item :) . They’re fit and really highlight your silhouette. It’s perfect for a semi-urban approach and you can add some pretty bloomers along with it . We´re sick of jeans and sweaters all the time!

You can also see some “one of a kind items” or contact her if you have any other specifications. This is an example of “one of a kind” gown made by Lycee for a movie…Impressive is not the right adjective, it goes beyond that. Look at that ruff, isn’t it gorgeous? It makes me wish to become rich to make a commission… can you imagine a custom made gown fro Lycee for a video… cute!!. Visit Plume designs

El Costurero Real: King Arthur’s legends collection

Lady of the Lake

Above: “Lady of the lake” model

Alassie Angelines is a spanish designer that specializes in historical garments. She created her own company called “El Costurero Real” delivering accurate replicas of medieval garments of a very high quality, using materials, dyes, and jewelry but adding also her own interpretation of the characters she recreate.   She’s won several prizes and is making her  own way working for several cinema projects. Her blog offers also tutorials and articles of overall interest for any lover of fantasy or historical garments… so if you are going to attend a ren fair, you´d better have a look at it (so far it’s only in spanish) but illustrated enough to be easily read with an online translator.

She has just launched a collection called “Leyendas artúricas” (Legends of King Arthur) that has its own particular website, a collection of garments and gowns for the main characters of the Arthurian Romance around this well known character, from King Arthur self,  Lancelot, Morgen le Fay, Lady of Shalott and more…

Above: me wearing one of the garments of the collection designed by Alassie Angelines… for me it’s been an honour  to be chosen as one of the celebrities that endorse garments from this lovely designer. I think this is “Morgen le Fay” model.

All garments are made upon demand and can be ordered in different kind of fabrics taking one to two months to be completed. If you are foreign make the questions or request in english, a brand new website in both languages is on the making.

Aside of the gowns and dresses, a sister-site offers all kind of complements from headpieces (designed by El Costurero Real),  belts, cloaks, necklaces,  jewelry and all sort of goodies and ready to wear. I particularly love the crowns, handmade and lovely for a lotr elvish gown, without over-using the “Galadriel” model found elsewhere. I’m dying to grab one of these for my performances.

Glory Gowns… a renaissance fantasy

img_0019

Linda Blankenship has been a seamtress for over 40 years, and now she specializes in fantasy garments from celtic, ren to lord of the rings elven dresses. Her Renaissance gowns are a two-piece with chemise with arm treatments. She recently opened a website to showcase her wonderful garments called GLORY GOWNS.  Very popular in Ren faires and weddings you can order it in custom fabric in many different versions. I am the proud owner of two Linda originals that she generously endorsed, one is the red one you see above (yep that’s me) and the other one I used it in my musical premier in USA last year in Faerieworlds festivals and it was made in deep purple velvet with even my custom logo embroidered in the bodice (I shall post some close ups of it in the gallery soon).  I can tell you it’s of the highest quality and put lots of love in detail, beautiful and heavy velvet. Linda also makes replica of several “Lord of the rings” inspired gowns, and aside of her commissions she also holds several auctions of “ready to wear” gowns in her ebay store from time to time. (Glory gowns ebay store). You can also make a personal inquiry to order a custom dress at her e-mail  glory.gowns@yahoo.com
