Who you gonna call… this Halloween? GHOSTBUSTERS!!!

I loved  GHOSTBUSTERS movie when a child (well the first part at least as I felt very dissapointed with the sequel) curiously after so long now that there are rumours of a new Ghostbusters movie on the making…  so somehow these days i’ve had the tune again in my head and one can imagine that pretty soon they’ll be back into fashion… I think they’ll work with the original cast… yay for nostalgics like me… raised in the eighties….
Ghostbusters had many elements of silly comedies… but laughable as it is it had al  so some creepy moments too…

In the picture above you  you can see a very accurate replica of the costume,  you can download the pdf step-by-step tutorial from INSTRUCTABLES webpage. Download PDF
All the materials you need can be found here

Are you not handy but still want to opt for the best ghostbuster (and expensive) option, you can get  all sort of props and even an exact replica  of the proton pack in real scale too purchasing all the pieces along together. there are even very expensive props with light and sound, just like the next one.

Other options, pluses and things you might need

Above you can  see a ghostbuster movie logo  embroidered  iron patch that you may need to customize your clothes into an official “ghostbuster” outfit.

or the whole jumpsuit

Don’t forget to get a pair of black gloves (details are important)

Ahhh  the final touch… YOU NEED to get into the mood listening to the Ghostbusters soon… I know it’s a hit from the eighties… but WHO DOESN’T KNOW this great song? It’s the idiosyncracy and spirit self of the ghostbusters movie… and has a great groove too!!, if you’re making an entrance somewhere you need it…
You can get it from itunes, amazon and other digital retailers. There’s no doubt this is a Halloween party hit!!

If there’s somethin’ strange in your neighborhood, Who ya gonna call …?

Into the Labyrinth: The realm of the Jareth, mighty Goblin King

Jim Henson’s Into the Labyrinth is one of my favourite movies. When I was a little girl of course like many other women in my generation I was deeply in love with Jareth the mighty Goblin King (sigh!!) Yes, Jareth was one of the best and coolest characters ever… and we, the girls wanted every prince of our dreams has his bitter spice, or be Sarah… to end the movie quite differently (evil green). Isn’t he sexy?

So to start with…

Do yourself a favour and rent or buy Labyrinth dvd… it’s pure magic…! That way you’ll see the different garments The Goblin King uses, as he changes quite often… still we’ll cover in this post a few basic elements of his character…! And if it’s a guy reading this… be aware that we girls raised in the eighties think that Jareth is the hottest thing on earth… so take note!

There are several versions of Jareth’s pendant out there for collectors, the cheapest and easier to find option is the one below, a not so high quality replica, but will do for your costume and for collectors :) as the official “toy replica” of the Goblin King pendant…

If you want a version of the pendant made by a crafter of if you are a labyrinth lover, you’ll be amazed by this site, EYEFEATHER, this crafter not only list several models of the pendant but also the most gorgeous labyrinth masks (including the one that Jareth wears as well as other characters from the movie) with incredible accuracy and detail! Just check yourselves in awe! These are the best Laby props I’ve ever seen! Judge yourselves!

Bronwyn, which is the name of this talented crafter, has also some other “goblin mood masks” like the ones the people wear in the labyrinth ball, and also other characters from the movie…! she has even the cute worm in real scale that you can wear on your shoulder!!!! I want them all…..!!!!

Jareth hairstyle is pivotal to make the character recognizable, for the wig, making a search for “punk wigs” or “Tina Turner” wig will do like one below, using some temp dyes to add some blue highlights will do the rest.

At this point, you’re getting within the character… and of course, what would impress everyone? Jareth was always messing with some crystal balls, they were symbols of his magic powers… so adding some contact juggling balls and a few lessons (there are dvds to teach you the basics and inexpensive acrylic balls) will provide depth to your representation… besides.. It’s so cool!!

The Dark Angel Shop (previously featured in its own article) features a “Jareth vest” a double breasted waistcoast and some shirts and cravats in Jareth mood to choose from
.

In time for a final touch…. ? You should know that Jareth has mismatched eyes, one green-hazel brown and the other one blue…! We previously covered some fx contact lenses so all you have to do is to purchase a single blue and green and get that magical odd look of his! One recommended site is this one: FANTASY CITY CONTACT LENSES, and check the “Venus collection”

Then your pair of black leather gloves and ready to go! I recommend this site to get some high quality ones “Revival clothing”

There is simply so much about Labyrinth, Jareth, Sarah and its creatures that one single post is not enough, not even for a first approach… but well we´ll follow soon with more about this movie…!

Of course one of the best options to go and show your labyrinth-inspired garments is the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball that takes place every year in LOS ANGELES!

Feathers of all kind and colours!!!

Yes, I know it’s much easier to purchase already made angel wings but if you’re good at crafts you can really attempt to make something really awesome with this, from a barn owl cloak feather to angel wings, collards, feather chokers… possibilities are as inmense as the variety of colours. In Art Creations by Shir Lee shop lists a myriad of feather kinds and usually has also wholesale packages and discounts… I have got some iridescent feathers for me :) and some feather pads which I find particularly great for gauntlets or headpieces as to use them as the trim of a cloak.

Thai Nails… a creepy tribal touch!

Thai nails are used in traditional thai dance and rather well known among bellydancers. They are made of brass golden colour though can be easily customizable by painting them to give them another entirely and “creepy touch” giving the impression you have longer fingers and adding movement, eight in each set (not in the thumb). Unexpected and great looking I use them sometimes on stage, and can be easily found  here where in fact I purchased them. It’s also lovely for that “Oriental” fantasy flavour if you keep the original golden colour. Cheap and effective! give it a try!
