Brian Froud’s Faery wear collection

Gypsy moon’s company has created a collection called Brian Froud’s faery wear inspired in the  fairy illustrations by talented Brian Froud (designer of movies like “The Dark Crystal” and “Into the labyrinth” he has rendered a wealth of fairy books from which I would highlight “good fairies and bad fairies” book, one of my favourites. Romantic, floaty gowns of sheer silk and chiffon and also coats and blouses ready for a more urban approach to a modern fairy, no matter what size or age.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival Queen’s election

carnival 2009 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

I was born and raised in the Canary Islands (Spain). In my native islands there is a big tradition for carnival, each of the seven islands have party, queen’s election. The biggest example is Tenerife’s which holds the biggest Carnival’s celebration after famous Rio de Janeiro’s . I lived in Santa Cruz quite a few years enough to see all the expectation around the election of the Carnival Queen each year. A topic or theme is chosen each year, so most of the people in the streets try to be fitting with the elected carnival’s theme. This year’s is “horror” (actually good for a place where Halloween doesn’t exist). Election is tomorrow and the event will be aired in several internet televisions. This year is aired by CANAL 7 and you can tune it here tomorrow night 21:00 (center european time).

If you want to see the humongous, huge and deluxe queen gowns visit the event.

This is a site I recommend for weddings, because they’re indeed for a special celebration at least. The collection also offers some models that would be lovely for film and theater too. They’re quite pricey  (around 3000 pounds) and requires early booking as a limited amount of gowns are made per year (this is good, because it’s not a massively produced stock and it does really show. This is really for fairytale weddings.

As it’s based in UK and it does required some fittings with the client, this website is recommended mostly for people in this country. She makes big sizes too, in fact the gallery shows examples of gorgeous looking real brides. I think the collection speaks by itself.  If  I were rich LOL ….!

The Queen of Hearts also celebrates St. Valentine´s day

The Queen of Hearts is one of the weirdest characters in  Lewis Carol’s “Alice in Wonderland”, well I confess Disney’s version drives me a bit mad “off with their heads” her temper is furious and a bit  selfish and cold. Of course she’s a weird villain but her appearance is also a little dark and romantic… why should not be allowed to reinterpret her? Did the Queen of Hearts have a heart after all? St Valentine’s day approaching after all…!

Or you can be less conventional and opt for a sexy look, specially if you  have someone to impress that particular day! ;-)

and adding striped stockings (yay, I’m obsessed with striped stockings or what? I always end up with a suitable model of these), in this case i’ve  handpicked these two models that I find suitable for the costume.

do not forget to wear proper shoes, any black or red will suit, but you can also opt for a heart-motif option like the ones bellow, that I also find suitable for a gothic lolita style. Actually with the stockings and this heels it might be spiced with a sort of “anime” cosplay style.

As a finishing detail this pendant would suit the whole set with a crystal heart necklace in an adjustable white ribbon

and you can’t be a queen without a crown. This tiara made out of hearts will serve for the purpose:

Talking about “Alice in wonderland” coming to movies and films I really like the recent approachment Henson’s company made starring Tina Majorino. If you want to go for the traditional Disney  look you can find several wigs to mimic the Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” , but I find sexier to opt for an edgier look, mixing read and black or white and red just like the following example:

A bit of atrezzo, some poker cards might make it
